Big Ambitions does not document a supported standalone “money file.” Money belongs to the save data. To find the save safely, open the game, choose Load, and use the button that opens the saved-games folder. On Windows, the developer gives the base path as C:\Users\<your name>\AppData\LocalLow\Hovgaard Games\Big Ambitions\SaveGames.

Fastest supported way to find the folder

  1. Launch Big Ambitions.
  2. Open the Load screen.
  3. Choose the folder/open-on-disk control for saved games.
  4. Identify the current-version folder and your save.
  5. Close or pause the game before copying files.

Using the game's button avoids guessing the Windows account name or opening the wrong Early Access version folder. The developer recommends this route before listing the manual path.

Manual save locations

Windows

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Hovgaard Games\Big Ambitions\SaveGames

AppData is hidden by default. Paste the path into File Explorer's address bar or use the in-game folder button. A Hovgaard developer posted the same LocalLow\Hovgaard Games\Big Ambitions\SaveGames location directly.

macOS

The checked community path reference places Big Ambitions data under ~/Library/Application Support/Hovgaard Games/Big Ambitions/. Use the in-game open-folder control when available because the internal save/version nesting may differ.

Back up a save without editing it

  1. Exit the game so it is not writing the save.
  2. Copy the complete save folder, not one guessed file.
  3. Put the copy in a separate backup directory.
  4. Keep the original folder name and note the game version and date.
  5. Reopen the game and confirm the original save still loads.

Backing up the whole folder preserves related files that may be needed together. If Steam Cloud is enabled, confirm which copy is newer before accepting a cloud-conflict prompt.

Find an autosave or recovery save

On the main menu, open Load and enable Recovery Saves. The developer states that this toggle shows autosaves below the manual saves. Try that before replacing files after a crash or bad decision.

If your goal is to change starting money

Use a custom game or supported difficulty/start settings instead of editing internal save data. That keeps the save readable by the current game and avoids depending on an undocumented field that may change between builds.

Why this page does not give a money-edit offset

  • no official source in this review documents a stable money-file schema;
  • a save can contain several related objects, not one safe text preference;
  • version migration can rewrite data;
  • Steam Cloud can restore a different copy; and
  • third-party editors or memory tools create risks outside the game's supported workflow.

The presence of a number in a local file does not prove it is the only authoritative balance. If you experiment anyway, work only on a disposable copy and never present an altered save as a bug reproduction.

The folder is missing

  • Launch the game and create a manual save first.
  • Use the Load-screen folder button rather than Windows Search.
  • Confirm that you are looking under LocalLow, not only Roaming.
  • Check that the current Windows user matches the profile in the path.
  • If a save appears only in Steam Cloud, let Steam synchronize while the game is closed, then check again.

For ordinary recovery, the safe sequence is: Recovery Saves → full-folder backup → verify the current version → load the copy. Money editing is not required to restore a legitimate save.
